South Korea and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) will hold working-level military talks on Feb. 8, Seoul's Ministry of National Defense said Tuesday.

The DPRK sent a message to the defense ministry earlier in the day, proposing to hold the working-level military talks on Feb. 8, the ministry said, adding that it accepted the request in a reply message.

The meeting will take place at the truce village of Panmunjom and is aimed at setting the date, place and agenda for high-level military dialogue.

The two sides agreed last month to hold high-level military talks.

Seoul proposed holding the working-level talks on February 11, in what would be their first contact since the Pyongyang's shelling of a border island last November.

The agreement between the two sides came after South Korea rejected the DPRK's proposal on Monday to push the date for the working-level military talks to Feb. 1.
