Chilean President Sebastian Pinera will pay a state visit to China later this month, Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said Tuesday.
Hong said Pinera will be in China from Nov. 15 to 17, a month before the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries.
During Pinera's stay, Chinese President Hu Jintao will hold talks with him. Wu Bangguo, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, and Premier Wen Jiabao will also meet with him, Hong said.
The two countries' leaders will have in-depth exchanges on deepening their comprehensive cooperative partnership and expanding pragmatic cooperation. They will also discuss international and regional issues, Hong said.
"China attaches great importance to the president's visit. We believe it will further promote the bilateral relationship and hope the trip is a successful one," Hong said.
