Obama donates Nobel Prize money to charities

U.S. President Barack Obama announced on Thursday a list of charity groups that will receive a portion of his 1.4-million-dollar award that comes with the Nobel Peace Prize.
"These organizations do extraordinary work in the United States and abroad helping students, veterans and countless others in need, " said Obama.
Among the ten charity groups that are expected to receive part of the prize money, Fisher House, a national non-profit organization that provides housing for families of patients receiving medical care at major military and medical centers, will get the biggest share with a total amount of 250,000 dollars, according to the White House.
An amount of 200,000 dollars will be given to Clinton-Bush Haiti Fund, created by former presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton in the wake of the devastating earthquake in Haiti to raise funds for long-term relief efforts in the country.
Others also on the list include College Summit, the Posse Foundation, the United Negro College Fund, the Hispanic Scholarship Fund, the Appalachian Leadership and Education Foundation, the American Indian College Fund, AfriCare and the Central Asia Institute.
Obama accepted his Nobel Peace Prize on Dec. 10, just nine days after ordering 30,000 additional U.S. troops into battle in Afghanistan.
In awarding the prize to Obama, the Norwegian Nobel Committee cited "his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between people."
