U.S. President Barack Obama has won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize for his call to reduce the world's stockpile of nuclear weapons and his efforts to achieve world peace.

As the first African American to hold the office of US President, Barack Obama has been calling for nuclear disarmament and working to restart the stalled Middle East peace process since taking office in January.
