U.S. wants Honduras' Micheletti to leave office before Jan. 15

Honduran President-elect Portfolio Lobo Sosa said on Wednesday that the United States wants the country's post-coup de facto leader Roberto Micheletti to leave his charge before Jan. 15.
"They are proposing Jan. 15 as the deadline" for Micheletti to leave office, Lobo said, adding that he wants the "table clean" of the crisis before Jan. 27 when he will take over the power.
"The United States wants the Tegucigalpa-San Jose Agreement to be totally fulfilled," Lobo told local radio channel Radio America.
The United States "considers that it is prudent that Mr. Micheletti leaves his charge," Lobo said.
Lobo also noted that the international community demands the fulfillment of the Tegucigalpa-San Jose Agreement, and admitted that now there is not enough time to fulfill the agreement, especially the part of creating a government of unity and reconciliation.
Lobo said that he met on Tuesday with U.S. State Department official Craig Kelly, who said that his government "is aware that there is not enough time, that is why it thinks it is prudent that Micheletti leaves his charge."
Meanwhile, Micheletti said on Wednesday during an interview with local TV channel canal 5 that he will not attend the swearing-in ceremony of Lobo Sosa on Jan. 27.
