Liu Yunshan, head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks when meeting with a delegation of the Workers' Party of Korea, which was led by Choe Thae Bok, secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea.
Liu said top leaders of both countries have attached great importance to bilateral ties, and bilateral friendly and cooperative relations have thrived and remained unshakable since the two countries forged the diplomatic ties 60 years ago.
"In the new century, we have the responsibility and ability to ensure the better development of bilateral relations," Liu said.
He said China is willing to make joint efforts with the DPRK to increase high-level exchanges, enhance strategic communication and deepen mutual beneficial cooperation in a bid to realize the in-depth development of the cooperative relations.
Liu noted that inter-party exchanges are an important part of bilateral ties and that the exchanges will be reinforced through the China-DPRK Friendship Year activities.
Choe said that the DPRK-China traditional friendship was established and fostered by the older generation of leaders of both nations and is rooted among the two peoples.
It is an unswerving belief of the Workers' Party of Korea to further strengthen the traditional friendly ties, Choe said.
