Icebergs are melting, sea levels are rising and environmental catastrophe looms. But for Chanel's Karl Lagerfeld, that's no excuse not to look your best.
Chanel Fall 2010 |
Lagerfeld's parade of climate change chic opened Paris Fashion Week. And, it ended with fun on the catwalk thanks to Nathalie Rykiel who brought a breath of fresh air on Sunday.
Japanese designer Tsumori Chisato showed off a Turkish inspired collection at the Carrousel du Louvre in Paris. And Sir Paul McCartney was also in Paris,to watch his daughter Stella present her latest collection.
Amid a monumental set of massive icebergs - made out of real frozen water - Lagerfeld sent out models in fur-covered tweed skirt suits splashing in shaggy cavewoman boots through puddles of Arctic melt at Tuesday's fall-winter 2010-2011 ready-to-wear show. It was a strong display that highlighted not only Lagerfeld's ability to reinvent Chanel's trademark looks season after season, but also fashion's capacity to appropriate the hot-button issues facing humanity and turn them into fodder for trends - even using the issues that scare us most.
