Now in another East-meets-West story today, we fly to Paris, where the ancient residences of the people of Anhui Province in east China have been captured on canvas and put on display. The exhibition, which opened over the weekend, was designated as part of the celebration for the 60th anniversary of the founding of PRC, as well as the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and France.
The 30 oil paintings on display were all created by the native Anhui painter Cheng Duoyao.
The habitation in Anhui is characteristic for its village layout and architectural style. It accentuates the traditional concept of Taoism -- "Man and Nature in One". The houses are rustic and unaffected and brim with the aesthetics of the Orient. Two of the villages have been inscribed on the UNESCO's list as the world cultural heritage sites.
A visitor said, "I appreciate these delicate works very much. Through extraordinary approach, the artist depicted these spirited villages with beautiful landscapes and unique residential houses."
Artist Cheng Duoyao has lived in the villages for years in order to get a first-hand experience.
Artist Cheng Duoyao said, "What a beautiful piece of land. If it can be depicted and revealed through the artistic language, it can be appreciated by more people. This is my wish."
The exhibition will be on show for one week.
