Although it looks like a single entity with ten onion domes on the outside, it is really ten churches built on a single foundation. This feature is in great contrast to Western cathedrals, which usually consist of a massive nave designed with a unifying artistic style.
St. Basil's Cathedral is known as an "architectural marvel" because each of its domes is unique. Its interior is often called "the Garden of Eden" because of its colorful interiors and the flowers painted all over its walls.
In the 16th century, Moscow suffered from frequent fires, as most of the city's buildings were made of wood.
And throughout its long history, the cathedral has had to go through numerous renovations and reconstruction.
Reconstruction work is still in progress, but despite that, the cathedral stays flooded with tourists all year round.
