South Korea bid farewell to former President Kim Dae-jung at a state funeral on Sunday. President Lee Myung-bak, as well as politicians and foreign delegates attended the service. As a driving force in trying to end the divide on the Korean Peninsula, for which he received the Nobel Peace Prize, his efforts and life are being remembered by the country and the world. Li Xiang has the story.

This was Kim Dae-Jung's last visit to the National Assembly.

On Sunday,the parliament building was the setting for his state funeral.

The ceremony was the country's second state funeral, the nation's highest tribute, following that of former President Park Chung-hee.

Hundreds of thousands of mourners came to say good-bye to Kim, the largest crowd ever.

Mourners could barely contain their grief.

Domestically, people remembered Kim as a longtime defender of democracy and an advocate of reconciliation.

As the South Korean president from 1998 to 2003, his "Sunshine Policy" was seen as an attempt to reunite the Korean family,and he sought to ease reconciliation by providing aid to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

Kim's widow urged the people to continue her husband's dream.

Lee Hee-Ho, Kim Dae Jung's Wife, said, "I sincerely wish you to love with a mind set of reconciliation, forgiveness, loving peace, loving your neighbours in difficulties, all of which my husband pursued during his whole life."

Abroad, Kim is best remembered for the hugs and smiles he exchanged in Pyongyang with the DPRK's leader Kim Jong-il at the summit he brokered in 2000.

That same year, he became the first South Korean president to win the Nobel Peace Prize.

Han Seung-Soo, South Korean Prime Minister, said, "You opened the path for inter-Korean reconciliation, exchange and cooperation through the first ever South Korea and DPRK Summit since the division of the peninsula."

Following the state funeral, Kim's body was moved to the Seoul National Cemetery.

Relatives, friends and his supporters witnessed the burial ceremony.

This may be the end of a person's life, but not the end of his spirit and dream.
