According to the Ministry of Industry and Information technology, China's three major telecom operators have invested a combined 80 billion yuan in 3G development. It said telecom operators have attached great importance to 3G development after the country began issuing 3G licenses.
China Mobile has increased investment in the construction of the TD-SCDMA network, and has already opened businesses in 38 cities. It said the TD network will cover more than 200 cities in the country by the end of this year. China Telecom has started CDMA networks in nearly 350 cities, while China Unicom has WCDMA networks in more than 100 cities.
The Ministry of Industry and Information said 3G development will cultivate new interest in software service, wireless cities, as well as the animation sectors.
