Fans still gathered outside the Jackson family home in Los Angeles on Saturday, leaving messages and tributes at a makeshift memorial with balloons and photos of the star.
And in Paris, thousands of people gathered in streets for a "mass moonwalk" in memory of the king of pop.
A Michael Jackson fan said, "We're gonna do a worldwide and amazing moonwalk for him and so we just worked with Facebook and Flickr and Twitter and as you can see there is all the children of Michael today."
In Tokyo, about 200 of Jackson's fans gathered for a candle-light vigil. The fans held candles and listened to the star's music.
A Michael Jackson fan said, "I hope his art will be kept as his legacy."
Jackson collapsed on Thursday. Paramedics on the scene said he was not breathing when they arrived.
The Los Angeles County coroner's office completed an autopsy on Friday. Jackson's body was released to his family late Friday night.
