13 million fry was released on Tuesday morning into the Bohai sea, the innermost gulf of the Yellow Sea on the coast of northeastern China. It has been the largest project of fry release so far.
The activity of releasing fish fry was co-sponsored by Ministry of Agriculture and Tianjin (municipality), Hebei, Liaoning and Shandong, the four provinces around Bohai District.
The 13 million fry carried in 24 fishing vessels cover 6 species, namely Chinese prawns, jellyfish, swimming crabs, Paralichthys olivaceus, Sebastodes fuscescens and Cynoglossus semilaevis Gunther.
Laizhou city, near Laizhou Bay, Bohai sea, as the spawning ground, is the key sealife base for local government's project of sea animals proliferation and release.
The Bohai Sea boasts a fertile water quality, high content of nutrients and abundant bait organisms with the annual production of phytoplankton reaching 140 million tons and the annual production of fishes 0.49 million tons.
