Souvenirs allow us to remember all the places we've ever visited. But they're usually conventional items, such as fridge magnets or stickers. In order to better promote itself, the Badaling section of the Great Wall near Beijing has launched a national competition, awarding creative minds with individual designs.
This lighter, designed by Zhang Yujun, won first prize in the competition. Zhang drew inspiration from the watchtowers of the Great Wall, and he also engraved the famous saying "Those who didn't make it to the Great Wall are not true men" onto his design.
Zhang Yujun, Top Prize Winner said, "I've incorporated elements of profound Chinese culture and history into my design, resulting in a practical gadget available for everyone."
Competition entries cover a wide range of objects, from exquisite bookmarks, to USB flash disks that seamlessly combine the latest technology with ancient Chinese traditions.
