Nearly ten months after the Beijing Olympic Games, the National Aquatic Center, also known as the "Water Cube", held its first sports event here last weekend.
About 800 young swimmers from Beijing aged between 10 and 18 took part in the the Future Swimming Stars competition. The 20 year old event aims to select the best swimmers from the younger generation.
14 year old Beijing student Qiao Xinyu was one of them, participating in several events. The young girl hopes to be a professional swimmer and compete for her country in the future, and spoke out against the use of performance enhancing drugs in sports.
Qiao Xinyu, 14-year- old student, said, "In a competition, the genuine result is the best. The drug may help the performance but the winner may not be really happy. So I think the best thing is to keep away from drugs and try your best to train and to win. This kind of result is the most satisfying and happiest for our swimmers."
