China's top legislator has kicked off an official goodwill visit to Russia. Wu Bangguo met with Russian leaders as the two countries strive for closer cooperation amid the global financial crisis. China and Russia are set to hold activities this year to mark 60 years since they established diplomatic relations.

Wu Bangguo, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress, arrived in Moscow Wednesday.
In a written speech released upon his arrival, he said that with the joint efforts of both sides, China-Russia relations have maintained a strong momentum of growth and reached an unprecedented level.
He added tha as the two countries plan to celebrate this year the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties his visit will achieve the aims of improving political trust. It will also enhance friendship between the two peoples and deepen mutually beneficial cooperation.
He expressed willingness to push for a long-term, healthy and stable growth of the China-Russia strategic partnership of cooperation.
The chairman later met with Russian President Dmitri Medvedev.
Wu Bangguo expressed appreciation for frequent contacts between leaders of the two countries.
He suggested that the two countries should enhance political trust and share mutual understanding and support on major issues concerning each other's core interest.
The Chinese leader also said the two countries should maintain consultation and cooperation on regional and international affairs.
