Premier Wen calls for cross-strait cooperation

Premier Wen Jiabao has called for the Chinese Mainland and Taiwan to "discard past enmity and face the future" to tackle the financial crisis and seek common prosperity.

Wen made the call when meeting with Fredrick Chien, chief advisor of Taiwan's Cross-Straits Common Market Foundation, on the sidelines of the forum. Wen told Chien the Mainland has approved concrete measures to achieve these goals.

The premier said the Mainland hopes Taiwan will take measures to ease the investment of mainland enterprises and open its market to mainland products.

He called for discussing and solving political and military issues in a pragmatic approach under the "One China" principle.

Chien said he completely agrees with the proposition on peaceful development of cross-Strait relations, He says he believes the majority of people in Taiwan also welcome it.
