Hundreds of thousands of people participated in Saint Patrick's Day festivities in Ireland and abroad on Tuesday. In Dublin, much of the festivities of the Saint Patrick's Day Parade took place on O'Connell Street.

Despite economic gloom, Ireland celebrated its national day this year with the usual fanfare and fun.

Around 70 parades were held around the country with the main festivities in Dublin attracting around half a million spectators.
