Nominations were announced under a new format this year. They announcements became part of an hour-long, live prime-time concert special on CBS. There was a heavyweight line up of performers. LL Cool J and Taylor Swift were the hosts.
Coldplay and Plant & Krauss also received nominations in the coveted record of the year category. Coldplay is up for 'Viva La Vida.' Plant and Krauss are nominated for 'Please Read the Letter.'
Other record of the year nominees were British songstress Leona Lewis for 'Bleeding Love'; British newcomer, Adele, for 'Chasing Pavements'; and M.I.A. for her breakthrough hit, 'Paper Planes.'
Also nominated were The Jonas Brothers for the best new artist category. They have already released two CDs. Their latest, 'A Little Bit Longer,' was their biggest ever in their breakthrough year.
Other multiple nominees included Jay-Z, Ne-Yo and Kanye West, with six each; Krauss, who has numerous Grammy wins, got five nominations.
