In central China's Hubei Province, university students were a major force in bringing advanced agricultural technologies to less developed areas. They taught peasants the latest farming knowledge and practices. Students also set up long-term relationships with farmers to solve their problems.

Volunteers in eastern Shandong Province focused on promoting marketing information of agricultural products to poor areas. They helped over 100,000 farmers there to leave poverty behind.
