Red Cliff

Many of this year's films moved their release dates forward so as not to collide with the opening of Feng Xiaogang's new year movie "If You Are the One". It's about a Chinese emigre who returns to search for his true love. Feng is confident of success. He says the box office for "If You Are the One," must surpass 200-million yuan, or nearly 30-million US dollars. The flick was originally scheduled for release on December 22nd. Reports are circulating that the release date will be moved back to New Year's week. That would place the film in direct competition with the second half of John Woo's "Red Cliff."
Woo's film encompasses many tales from the classic "Three Kingdom stories including "Borrow' arrows with legions of straw boats" and "Lighting the Red Cliff on Fire".
The new year film season features a balance of low budget films and blockbusters. The package is varied covering different genres. No matter who comes out the ultimate winner at the box office, there's something for everybody in this year's New Year films.
