This 2010 not only poignantly marks the end of a decade, but for some, the holidays and the New Year also punctuate a time not just for resolutions, but also a time to give something back to society by doing a bit of charity work.

Subsequently, the holidays steward in a time when people volunteer in soup kitchens, make donations to those less fortunate or perhaps attend fundraisers or galas.

This December, motivated by a philanthropic sense of duty, expats and Chinese alike are taking the time to do charity work in Beijing to help those in need by donating gifts, clothes, school supplies, and time to those who live outside the prosperous zones of the nation's capital.

Global Times Deputy Director of the Marketing Department Mr. Wang Zheng, notes that the rising number of poorer migrant workers' children in Beijing, now over 400,000, prompted the English and Chinese editions to coordinate Global Times' charity event this December 16.

Combining Christmas with a charity activity for the kids, Global Times employees and several expats in the Beijing community visited one of Beijing's poorest schools, armed with pencils, notebooks, toys and a bit of holiday cheer.
