Nigeria will host the West African Football Union (WAFU) Under-20 men's soccer championship billed for November 15 to December 7 this year, the newly elected president of the body, Amos Adamu, has announced.
Briefing the press shortly after the body's inaugural executive committee meeting in Abuja at the weekend, Adamu also announced that the First Lady, Turai Yar 'Adua, has donated a trophy to WAFU to organize a women's tourney on a date yet to be fixed, local media reported Monday.
He added that this would be the first time in the history of the sub-regional body that it would stage a female football championship.
According to Adamu, WAFU intends to stage a senior Nations' Cup tournament, but for the tightness of FIFA and CAF calendars, the competition would not be possible this season.
In related manner, South African sports television network, Supersports, and Nigeria's African Independent Television (AIT) have been contacted to beam WAFU matches to the whole world.
