Chinese sharpshooter Du Li showed her delegation's potential on
the second day of the Shooting World Cup in Sydney by aiming true
for the gold medal in the women's 10-meter air-rifle event.
China has dominated the last two days of competition with the
men sweeping the golds in the men's 10m air rifle and the women's
10m air pistol events.
Du Li , the reigning Olympic Champion, entered Saturday's final
in first place but tied alongside teammate Yin Wen.
The two athletes led the final until the sixth shot when the
less-experienced Yin shot a lowly 8.6 She compounded her woes with
her seventh shot, scoring only a 7.9, a small mistake which proved
enough to propel her downwards into last place.
Du Li, however, kept her cool and claimed the gold with a total
score of 502.3 points.
Third Chinese finalist Zhao Yinghui came second, seeing off Olga
Dovgun of Kazakhstan 10.1 to 9.9 in a second-place shoot-out.
Yin Wen regained a measure of pride, claiming fifth place after
seeing off American Emily Caruso.
