Tottenham Hotspur
One can almost hear the agonized intake of breath from the Chelsea fans at this one, but, there are a few reasons why this one has legs. The first reason, leading on from the last point above, is Mourinho’s recent house-hunting expedition in London’s capital, which would potentially put Tottenham in the frame, along with Chelsea. Also, current Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp strongly linked with the vacant full-time England job, it would seem that there is an impending vacancy at White Hart Lane. The main doubt, though, centers on Tottenham’s chairman Daniel Levy. Given his past record, it is very doubtful that he would be willing to fund such an expensive transfer, even for Mourinho.
Manchester United
There are reports that Mourinho is Ferguson’s choice as his successor when he eventually leaves the club. |
Mourinho’s taste and flair for the big stage is undeniable, and stages don’t come much bigger in English football than Old Trafford. Mourinho has an established friendship with United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, and has spoken often of his admiration for both club and manager, and there are reports that Mourinho is Ferguson’s choice as his successor when he eventually leaves the club. However, Ferguson appears set to stay at the United helm for some time to come, and English media reports have detailed concern among United’s power brokers regarding the controversy which invariably surrounds Mourinho.
Real Madrid
Of course, Mourinho could simply stay put. If he delivers La Liga and the Champions League, both Real’s fans and power brokers will likely celebrate if he decides to stay. Also, Real’s star striker Christiano Ronaldo was quoted in The Independent last month as saying that Mourinho would stay with the Spanish league leaders. However, Mourinho’s tense relationship with the Spanish press and general air of discontent appear to signal that a change of some kind is at hand.
