After three consecutive losses as the new head coach of Fluminense, Muricy Ramalho finally won his first match on Saturday.
Winning 1-0, Fluminense defeated Atletico-GO in the second round of the Brazilian Championship. The coach attributes the victory to a collective change of attitude.
"The team was not offensively minded and we could not get close to our opponents goal in the previous three matches. Today, we were aggressive. It is a great sign to see your adversary's goalkeeper having to work harder than ours. This makes any coach happy," said Ramalho.
Ramalho reinforced that his work at Fluminense will take some time and confidence in order to become entrenched. He cited Julio Cesar, saying the striker needs to have more faith in the coach's system and in his own ability.
The coach said his style of tactical variation is a good way to confuse the opponent, and he is not worried about his rough start and hopes that the win will not only boost the confidence of his team, but will help bolster his no-nonsense style of coaching.
