Santos lost to Guarani 3-2 in the away return leg but still advanced with a 10-4 aggregate score to the quarterfinals of the Brazilian Cup on Wednesday.

After beating Guarani 8-1 in the first leg on April 14, Santos rested its usual starting players in preparation for the team's Sao Paulo state championship finals on Sunday as it had the luxury being able to lose Wednesday's match by six goals.

All of the goals came in the second half. Guarani scored first in the 51st minute when Da Silva fired a ball that deflected off Santos' Bruno Aguiar and into the net.

Santos responded in the 56th minute. From long distance, midfielder Breitner surprised goalkeeper Juliano, blasting the ball into the upper right corner. The team then took the lead in the 65th minute when George Lucas centered the ball to Alex Sandro who finalized with force into the back of the net.

After some Santos substitutions, the team became slower and less effective. This gave way to a Guarani come-back. With only minutes remaining, Richard Falcao scored back-to-back goals, giving his team a moral victory.

Despite the win, Guarani was eliminated from the Brazilian Cup. Santos awaits the winner between Atletico-MG and Sport as their opponent in the quarterfinals. Regardless of the result, Santos will play on the road in the first leg of the quarterfinals match-up on April 28.
