Sixth-seeded Andy Roddick stopped giant-killing Czech Tomas Berdych to win the Miami ATP Masters tennis title on Sunday.
The American broke once in each set to win the match 7-5, 6-4, which brought an end to the impressive run of the 16th-seeded Berdych, who toppled world number one Roger Federer in the fourth round.
Roddick, who beat world number four Rafael Nadal in the semifinals, added a second Miami title to the one he captured in 2004, and his 29th title of career.
With 13 aces, Roddick kept Berdych on the hop, dropped only two service games in the tournament, improved to 26-4 in 2010, the best match record on the men's tour.
Roddick has won four straight against the 20th-ranked Berdych, his last loss coming in 2008 in Tokyo. The pair have played three times already in 2010.
Berdych was playing his first final in North America and his first on the Masters stage, with the Czech profiting from a recent change of coaches as he defeated Swiss Federer in the fourth round.
He was the first from his nation to reach the Miami final since Ivan Lendl won the title in 1989.
Overall, Berdych was satisfied with his tournament, saying that "Well, not as satisfied as I would be if I were sitting here as a winner. But I'm happy for this two weeks, 10 days, that I played a couple of really good matches."
