In his return to Brazilian soccer, Roger scored in his debut with Cruzeiro on Saturday as Cruzeiro eased to a 3-1 victory over Atletico-MG in the sixth round of the Minas de Gerais state soccer championship.
Cruzeiro's first goal came in the 22nd minute. Off a corner kick, Gil redirected a ball that deflected off the defense of Leandro and continued into the net.
Atletico-MG scored their only goal of the night off a stopped ball. In the 30th minute, Jairo Campos followed up his own shot and blew the ball past the Cruzeiro goalie Fabio.
Cruzeiro reclaimed the lead in the 82nd minute when Roger sent a corner kick directly to Leonardo Silva who continued to head the ball into the net.
Minutes later, Roger scored his first goal back on Brazilian soil. In the 88th minute, Roger blasted a ball from well outside of the penalty box, catching the defense by surprise and rattling the back of the Atletico-MG net.
With their win, Cruzeiro stands in second place of the state tournament with 12 points. Atletico's loss was their first in the tournament and the team stands in 6th place with 6 points.
