Oliver Wilson is once more at the head of the leaderboard – can he go on to clinch victory this time? |
Wilson was an early starter, and the first to post the leading clubhouse score. He has played two steady rounds of 66, 66, and once again looks ready to shed his title of the man who still hasn't won a tournament. Once again he is playing sterling golf, converting chances and repairing his mistakes quickly. On the 7th hole, his 16th, he had a chance to go to ten-under, three clear of the field at that point, but missed a shortish putt. He had cause to regret that minutes later when he bogeyed the tricky 9th, turning what could have been a –10 into only –8.
"I really wanted to come here and play well and put in a really good performance - obviously try and win before the end of the season," he said. "If I can win this week I think I'll be able to overtake Sergio at the top of the Race to Dubai. It would be fantastic to go into Christmas in that position, but either way it would be nice to play well over the weekend, get into contention again, and see what happens."
Louis Oosthuizen was next in at eight-under. He played a flawless round of eight birdies and no bogeys to come sneaking through the field for his share of the lead. Plaphol, like Wilson, has produced a pair of 66s; unfortunately such was the traffic jam at the top of the leaderboard that I did not have time to catch any of his round. Oliver Fisher makes up the quartet. He is another who is looking for his first win, and would be happy to make it here.
