"Educated Young People in the North" was produced in the 1960s when the "educated people to the countryside" movement swept China and altered the life of almost every Chinese. The educated young people of northeast China were a typical group of individuals who lived through this radical social change. Weng photographed real-life and work scenes of his subjects without posing them, which was unusual at that time. Thus the series of pictures serve as an academic and historical treasure.
