Huang Yiming was born in Hainan in 1960. He began his career in photography in 1983, when his work "Pictures in the Field" was awarded first place at a contest held by the Ministry of Health and China Photographers Association. After years of observation and hard work, he published a collection called "Story of Hainan" to represent everyday life there. In his pictures, Huang has covered several social issues, including the Hainan comfort women. Huang continues to devote himself to documentary photography today.

 

Huang Yiming's "Story of Hainan" is a panorama of Hainan during the economic development period in the early 1990s. Disorderly streets, anxious people and abandoned buildings tell the turbulent story of Hainan. Huang's pictures vividly depict both the secular life and the spiritual status of people living in a blooming economic district. (Curator: Liu Shuyong)
