Wu Jialin was born in Yunnan in 1942, began to study photography in 1969 and later joined the China Photographers Association. He published the photo collection "People from the Mountains in Yunnan" in 1993 and held an exhibition at the 7th international photography festival in 1996. The pictures won a documentary photography prize presented by Mother Jones Foundation. His photo works have been exhibited in Germany, Russia, France and other countries.

 

"People from the Mountains in Yunnan" is a visual record of the diverse cultures of the inhabitants of China's southwestern plateau. Life there has not been polluted by modern civilization. Photographer Wu Jialin has a passion for the area and portrays it in a set of meticulous pictures. His work shows nostalgia for lost and disappearing life styles and his concerns and doubts about urbanization. (Curator: Zeng Huang)
