Ahmad Liu Jinxun was born in 1971 and is a Muslim. He is now curator of Gucang Modern Photography Museum and a member of the China Photographers Association. He won the grand prize of the 2nd Source of Three Rivers International Photography Festival in 2007. He held an individual exhibition in the Songzhuang area in Beijing in 2008.

 

Sufi originally meant ascetic or wearing a rough woolen shirt in Arabic, but now it is used to refer to all mystical schools of Islam. Sufi was introduced to China in the Qing dynasty and fused with the traditional Chinese patriarchal system and local agricultural customs to create a unique humane form. Liu Jinxun's "Sufi Plateau" was shot from 2006 to 2009 in the mountainous areas of eastern and southern Ningxia province, where most of Sufi Muslims in China live. The pictures are about the religious life of southern Ningxia. Liu emphasizes the specific relationships of people with the soil and with they religion in a simple and strong manner.
