Canada wins Goalball contest
Adjust font size:

Canada kept their chances of making the finals alive with a strong defensive performance to win 1-0 over Germany at Beijing Institute of Technology Gymnasium on Wednesday.

Defense dominated the opening half of the game with neither side giving up a goal.

Amy Alsop was energetic at center for Canada while Stefanie Schindler replaced out-of-form Natalie Ball in the same position for Germany.

Nancy Morin broke the deadlock three minutes into the second half to give Canada the lead when she bounced a throw over the outstretched hands of German Ina Fischer.

The Germans were in tears after the match, hugging and consoling each other, knowing their chances of making the semifinals were eliminated with the narrow loss.

While the Canadian team is already eying the gold, Morin remains patient. "I'd like to win another gold medal, but I'll not think about the semifinals and finals," she said.
