Beijing bans hawkers, food stalls around venues
Adjust font size:

Hawkers, open-air grills and night food stalls will be banned around Olympic venues and embassies during the Games, a local official said.

There will also be crackdowns on the illegal use of motorcycles and rickshaws, and posting or spraying ads, to improve environment management, Dong Qijun of the city's urban management bureau said in Beijing on Wednesday.

Besides Olympics venues, airports, Tian'anmen Square, major commercial areas and tourist attractions would also be monitored, he said.

Dong promised to respond to complaints from residents about such violations.

The bureau would deploy vehicles equipped with surveillance facilities for monitoring purposes, he said.
