At the 2000 Sydney Olympics, she won a silver medal in the women's 3-meter springboard. She also won silver in the women's 3-meter synchronized springboard, a new event, with partner Fu Mingxia, finishing behind Russians Yulia Pakhalina and Vera Ilina. At the 2004 Athens Games, she was the number one diver on the Chinese women's team and finally won gold medals in the 3-meter individual and synchronized events.
With regard to her future, Guo Jingjing always keeps a stable and calm mind. "I'd like to learn law," she says. "I know that's quite a difficult subject and it would not be easy to learn. However, with the experience of diving practice, hardship is nothing for me."
Upon being asked if she would like to join the entertainment industry after retirement, she raised her head and said slowly, but firmly, "No. I'm quite sure that my disposition is not fit for that."
