The Australian city of Melbourne has beaten Canada's Vancouver to the title of world's most liveable city for the first time in almost a decade, BBC reported.

Vancouver has topped the annual Global Liveability Survey since 2002, but this year it fell to third place behind Vienna.

The cities were assessed in five categories – stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education and infrastructure.

London was ranked 53, out of 140 cities surveyed. Honolulu, at 26, was the top US city. Beijing, at 72, was the top China city.

The top 10 most liveable cities of 2011 are: 1. Melbourne 2.Vienna 3. Vancouver 4. Toronto 5. Calgary 6. Sydney 7. Helsinki 8. Perth 9. Adelaide 10. Auckland.

全球最宜居城市：墨尔本

       据英国广播公司报道，澳洲墨尔本击败常胜军加拿大温哥华，首次成为全球最适合人居的城市。

       从2002年起，温哥华每年都位列全球最适合人居城市之首，今年却屈居第三，排在奥地利维也纳之后。

       宜居城市有五个指标：治安、医疗水平、文化与环境、教育和基础设施。

       在140个排名城市中，英国伦敦排名第53位，火奴鲁鲁排名26，是美国城市排名中最靠前的城市；而我国排名最好的是北京，第72名。

       2011年十大宜居城市排名如下：1. 墨尔本 2. 维也纳 3. 温哥华 4. 多伦多 5. 卡尔加里 6. 悉尼 7. 赫尔辛基 8. 珀斯 9. 阿德莱德 10. 奥克兰。
