Flip-flops, cheap and cheerful staples of summer wardrobes, normally cost less than US$20. What can be so special about this pair, then, which will set one shopper back a smooth US$18,000?

Made by Chipkos, "the world’s most expensive flip-flops" feature hand-painted art by renowned LA-based artist David Palmer, the Daily Mail reports. But other than that, they look pretty normal.

By buying the US$18,000 pair, Chipkos pledges to adopt 100,000 square feet of rainforest "for the protection and preservation of land, species and natural resources."
