The financial response to this movie is evidence of its success with viewers who enjoy special effects. I enjoy special effects but not at the expense of a good storyline. I felt the movie depended totally on the extraordinary (but improbable) scenes of fires, punching, kicking, explosions and other noisy activities that kept me from seeing what the heck the story was about. I like Robert Downey, Jr., and I'm a real fan of Jude Law. The scenes of 18th century London appeared authentic but, for the first time ever, I left the theater before the film ended.

My husband and I loved this movie as it was about an updated Sherlock and not at all like the Basil Rathbone we saw when very young. The acting was superb, and the story was very intriguing. It might be a little rough for young children, although some were present. Most of the audience appeared to be in their teens to thirties. Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law were perfect in their parts, and we are partial to their movies. We highly recommend it for an evening out.
