First private bodyguard company established
China's first private bodyguard company was set up in Zhengzhou yesterday after receiving approval from government public security officials, Modern Express reported. Private security services will remain under the public security departments' supervision.
Last February, the Ministry of Public Security issued regulations to allow incorporation of security companies providing private security services.
The company's general manager Li Wenqi said bodyguards will provide personal escort services to ensure the employer's security. Company bodyguards include Chinese military veterans, Shaolin Martial Arts School elite, martial arts champions and sports school graduates. They receive thorough training in both defense and etiquette, assisting employers in their daily affairs.
Hiring one of these bodyguards can cost a pretty penny – annual salaries for the best full-time guards run as high as 300,000 yuan a year. "Although we are employees of our clients, we will absolutely not act as their hired thugs," Li said. "We have our own set of principles."
