Police: abducted girl still in NZ
Adjust font size:

New Zealand police looking for abducted Auckland girl Cina Ma said today there is nothing to suggest that she has been harmed or taken from the country.

The five-year-old, of Chinese origin, was bundled into a car by a masked man outside her home Monday.

A team of about 40 police continued to work around the clock with help from local and overseas experts and agencies.

Alerts have been issued at international airports, though police believed the girl was still in New Zealand, but did not say if they thought she was in Auckland.

Police believed her abduction was a premeditated act and not random.

Detective Inspector Steve Wood said today that they were making concrete progress with their investigation. However, he was still refusing to be drawn on whether a ransom demand has been made, or other details of the case, Radio New Zealand reported.

Wood said he appreciated people's patience about the limited amount of information they could make public. He said the situation was critical and concern for Cina Ma was growing by the hour.
