Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao said in Beijing on Thursday that China hopes the United States will view Sino-US relations objectively and rationally, and not to bring its domestic political factors into the bilateral relations.

Liu made the remarks at a regular press conference, commenting on US presidential candidate Hillary Clinton's accusation that China was paying back the United States for a landmark trade deal with tainted fish, lead-laced toys and poison pet food. He was also asked if Clinton was elected US president whether her attitude would affect the relation.

Liu said the election of a US president was the affair of the US people, and China would respect the choice of the US people.

"Facts have proved that the trade relationship between China and the United States is mutually beneficial, and has brought substantial interest to the people of the two countries," he said.

Dumpling incident

China hopes the poisoning incident of Chinese dumplings exported to Japan would not have an impact on China-Japan relations, Liu said.

Liu said that the dumpling poisoning was an individual contrived case and he believed that both sides would properly handle the case. China had paid intense attention to this case and hoped that both sides could step up cooperation to clear up the issue at an early date, Liu said.

In January, Japanese media reported that 10 people fell ill after consuming frozen meat dumplings produced by Tianyang Food Plant based in north China's Hebei Province.

Japanese authorities found methamidophos in the vomit of those poisoned and in food packages at their houses.

But sample tests showed that the rest of the same batch of dumplings and other batches made at about the same time by the Chinese company were safe, as were the raw materials used in production.
