Enhance China-Russia strategic cooperation, mutual trust

Noting that this year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Russia, Yang said the China-Russia strategic partnership of cooperation is at a new historic starting point and facing a vital opportunity for development
President Hu has held fruitful talks with his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev, Yang said.
The two leaders reviewed the extraordinary course of development of the bilateral ties during the past 60 years and mapped out a blueprint for their future development.
Noting that developing mutual trust, stressing the overall situation and adopting a long-term approach are basic principles for the development of the bilateral relations, the Chinese president suggested the two sides seize the opportunity, join hands and deepen the good-neighborly relations and strategic cooperation, according to Yang.
The deepening international financial crisis has highlighted the importance and urgency for the two sides to strengthen pragmatic cooperation and strive for common development, Yang said.
Cooperation in economy, trade, energy and the humanistic sector should be enhanced and strategic cooperation on international affairs be reinforced, he added.
Under the new circumstances, China and Russia reached consensus on furthering bilateral relations as well as cooperation in major fields.
The two leaders issued a joint statement after their meeting. The two sides also signed a host of cooperative documents on energy, investment and culture.
