No pollution has seeped into the sea as a result of a fire that broke out early Monday at an oil refinery in Guangdong Province, authorities said Thursday.

The environmental monitoring report shows that the water quality in the floodway, in which some water for fighting the fire flowed from the refinery, had returned to normal as of late Wednesday evening, said a spokesman with the administrative committee of the Dayawan Economic and Technical Development Zone. 8 The local government and the oil plant had arranged professionals to collect and transport the water in fire fighting and rainwater to the sewage treatment plant, he added.

The fire was reported at 4:10 a.m. on Monday morning at an oil refinery in Huizhou City. Flames soared over 100 meters high after oil leaked from equipment at the Huizhou Refinery Company of China National Offshore Oil Corp. It was put out three hours later.

A company spokesman said the fire did not lead to any toxic emissions, as only carbon dioxide was detected in the smoke.
