The construction of a new highway bridge on the Yellow River, China's second longest river after the Yangtze, got underway Thursday, designed to improve roadlinks between Henan Province, central China, and Shandong Province, east China.
The bridge, known as the Sunkou Yellow River Highway Bridge, will connect Henan's Taiqian County and Shandong's Liangshan County, a mere 230 meters downstream from the existing Sunkou Railway Bridge.
The bridge has a total length of 8,770 meters, and its main body is 3,556 meters long and 12 meters wide. The total construction cost is estimated at 241 million yuan (about US$29 million).
The project is expected to take 30 months.
