A major upgrade of Beijing's Third Ring Road started Monday night, sources with the city's traffic authorities confirmed.
From 11:00 pm to 6:00 am every day for the next six months, the part of the road under renovation will be closed for replacing the surface with new and environmentally friendly materials.
Vehicles are encouraged to travel on other roads or the support road which runs parallel to the main ring road during construction to avoid traffic jams.
The latest road repair follows the refurbishment of the Second Ring Road late last year.
The second, third and fourth ring roads have become the city's transport arteries. The fifth and sixth ring roads are under construction.
The sources said Beijing's traffic authorities would concentrate on building connecting roads between the ring roads when the repair of the Third Ring Road finished.
