Shanghai yesterday began the construction of the last section of the Outer-Ring Road in Pudong, east to the Huangpu River, Jiefang Daily reported.
The 3 billion yuan (US$361 million) project of 31 kilometers will go from the Wusong Road underground tunnel in the north to the Pudong International Airport in the south.
It will be a main transportation section to help boost development of Pudong, officials said, connecting Waigaoqiao, Jinqiao zones and Zhangjiang High-tech Park and the airport.
The designed speed for vehicles will be 80 kilometers per hour in the 8-lane road of 32 meters wide. It will build 23 bridges and 7 crossovers for pedestrians.
It will also build parks and forests along to improve landscape along the road.
The project was scheduled to finish by the end of 2002.
