A garden that duplicates the famous painting, Qing Ming Shang He Tu (a trip up the Bian River at Qingming festival), finished its second phase construction in Kaifeng city of Central China's Henan Province and opened to tourists on Friday.
The garden is a key tourist attraction for Kaifeng city. It is a large theme park that is supposed to reflect the hustle and bustle of the city during the Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127) as vividly depicted in the picture.
The first phase construction of the garden opened to public in October, 1998. The second phase began construction in September 2003 with an area of 249 mu, or 166,083 square meters, and an investment of 86 million yuan.
The picture, Qing Ming Shang He Tu (picture of the Bian River at Qingming festival), depicts the prosperity of the Kaifeng city which was then called Bian and was the capital of the Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127). At that time, Kaifeng boast to "have a population of one million and be the richest city under heaven".
