High Temperatures Fuel Metro Travel in Shanghai

To avoid the sizzling sun on these long summer days, more Shanghai people are opting to travel around the city by metro, says Shanghai Metro Operation Company.

Shanghai Metro Operation Company, the operator of the city's three rail transport lines, says the city's rail system has served an additional 23,000 passengers more each day since July.

The three rail lines have carried 1.3 million passengers a day, up 11 percent on the same period last year.

To deal with increasing pressure on the transport system and improve efficiency, the metro authority has installed automatic ticket-selling machines.

In September, the Metro Operation Company will add another six ticket-selling machines at six metro stations.

These machines will take notes as well as coins and give change.
